  Augusta Savage was a sculptor and fought for African American rights. She was told to be “Normal” but she refused and did what she loved. She quoted “ I was a Leap Year baby, and it seems to me that I have been leaping ever since.” When Augusta was young, she would play in the naturally forming red clay in her backyard. Her father disapproved of this and got very mad. her father wanted her to be like”normal” children and to play with dolls. Augusta loved sculpting so she did it anyway. She herself experienced racism and wanted to change it in her own way. She fought against racism through her sculptures. She was determined to change the world. She wanted to change the world somehow and thought,”why not by art?” So, she sculpted how racism felt to try to make fair rights. She was labeled a troublemaker for standing up for herself and future black people. However, it had a serious effect on stopping racism. Many artists listened to her and changed their perspectives.
