Telling lies is a risky thing to do. It can harm relationships by causing people to lose their trust in each other. It can give people the wrong information, which can be upsetting or dangerous even. Lying is sometimes a good thing. It can be used to protect someone from the truth. For example, your mom might have told you when you were younger that if you don't eat your vegetables a ghost will come and haunt you.
